Some additional information in one line

Starting and owning a business is not easy. It is not for the faint of heart. I can attest to this firsthand. However, it is the most fun, gratifying, purpose-filled outward expression of hard work, commitment, and perseverance. Rewarding and limitless, entrepreneurship is  "the way" for people who want to be in control of their future, who want access to freedom, income, and time flexibility.

Small and medium businesses are the backbone of the U.S. Economy. Thriving small businesses support communities, schools, local teams, and events and provide an entrepreneurial spirit that can impact generations to come. There are many types of businesses you could start: traditional, non-profit, online, local, freelance work, contract work, and more.  Maybe we'll save that topic for another blog.

If owning a business coincides with the "American Dream", why doesn't everyone do it? How do we level the playing field so everyone has the same opportunity?

Consider the playing field is pretty level.

You have the same opportunity as the next person to become a business owner and emerge into the world of entrepreneurship, even if starting part-time. It starts with a decision, surrounding yourself with entrepreneurial-minded people, and taking advantage of an opportunity when it presents itself. Whether you were brought up in a family of business owners with the knowledge and know-how or if you were like me - a health care professional who chose a career path of helping people. I found myself 10 years into my medical career wondering if there was anything else beyond what I was doing daily in my clinic.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVED medicine and still do. It is a passion of mine. However, it wasn't allowing me to create the real lifestyle I wanted. I was burnt out. I was faced with this blunt reality and desire for more after having a rare uterine cancer. What was I working so hard for when I could never get ahead? Is this real quality of life? The system is broken. What do I want to look back on and feel proud that I accomplished besides my career job?

It seemed like there had to be more.

Wrestling with this inquiry, wondering what options I really could have as a healthcare provider, I was presented with the opportunity of owning a small online e-commerce business. I didn't need skills or talent, the blueprint was laid out for me and I had a support community.

I took the plunge and have never looked back.

I worked it a few hours a week in between my full-time job hours, learning how to shift my employee mindset to that of a successful healthcare entrepreneur. I had the goal of making enough income in my little business that would allow me flexible working hours and to make as much income as I wanted to. That was enough of a "why" to get me through the tough times when I thought "it would never work" or questioned, "can I really do this?".

Guess what!?

It always works when you think it will work and look for solutions instead of problems.
